Police are hunting for three men who broke into a Waihi home armed with gardening tools and beat up a man.
Detective Simon Everson said the attack took place at a Mangatoetoe Street home around 1.20am this morning.
"The offenders assaulted a male from the house and caused some damage to the home's interior before they have fled the property with a yet to be determined amount of cash and some cell phones.
"A car was heard driving away however we have only very vague descriptions of the offenders and no description of the car used in their escape," he said.
Everson asked anyone with information about the attack to call the Waihi police on 07 858 6200.
